I am an engineering student in India. I really want to pursue my Masters in USA, but the uncertainty of life in US is holding me back (also I really don’t know anyone in USA). What is the best way to clear this uncertainty ?

One word: initiative

You need to realize that thousands of students from India have similar questions and they too are afraid of the uncertainty that lies ahead of them. You also need to realize that these same confused students take the step to pursue masters and they eventually graduate and eventually find jobs in the US (keep in mind that they also work hard to get what they want). What I’m trying to say is this: the confusions you have, though may seem very unique to you, is something all the students face all the time. The best way to clear your confusion is by engaging with the online resources that are available to everyone.

For now, here are some of the steps you can take to clear your confusion:

(a) Talk to 30MinGuidance counselors

(b) Engage with Indian Student Association (ISA) groups at various universities in Facebook. For example ISA student group at Virginia Tech can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/vt.isa/

Basically, take the initiative to find online resources that’ll clear your confusion. Also, keep in mind that on this journey a lot of your emails will go unanswered (and it’s a disheartening experience). Don’t let it get to you. Just keep sending more emails and keep finding new ways to get your questions answered 🙂
